Founded in 2025 by retired CT music educator Rich Szulczewski, The Infinity Saxophone Quartet is a lively, eclectic group incorporating jazz standards, contemporary classical, big band, folk, ballads, and classic popular music. Often featuring a drummer and vocalist, this ensemble plays everything “from Bach to Queen, with a whole lotta fun in between.”

Rich Szulczewski

Founder, Manager & Tenor Saxophone

Rich is a retired CT public school music educator. He taught all levels of instrumental and vocal music in multiple districts for 35 years, the last 26 being in Cheshire, CT. Rich earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Music Education from Central CT State University, and also holds a Master of Science degree in Addiction Counseling from Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, AZ. During his undergrad years, Rich played alto saxophone as his main instrument and was a section leader and soloist in both his university wind and jazz ensembles, as well as the New England Intercollegiate Honor Band. In 1997, Rich had the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall with the Connecticut Symphonic Band. He has also served as a music minister and music director at area churches, and sings tenor with the locally acclaimed Asylum Hill Congregational Church Sanctuary Choir, Hartford, CT, as well as seasonally with the Chamber Choir at Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center, West Hartford, CT. Rich is currently a program coordinator for The City School of the Arts/Charter Oak Cultural Center, Hartford, CT, and he is especially proud of founding, managing, and playing tenor saxophone in various musical styles with The Infinity Saxophone Quartet.

Justin Fontano

Soprano & Alto Saxophone

Justin is a graduate of Southington High School, where he served as section leader in the marching and concert bands, jazz, and saxophone ensembles. Justin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Connecticut, and he currently works in the I.T. field. While at UConn, Justin was a member of the Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and the Jazz Lab Band. His musical experience and training there allowed him to grow immensely as a musician. Justin currently plays alto and soprano saxophones with, and is a soloist for, the Southington Symphonic Band. He has also arranged music for The Infinity Saxophone Quartet.

Steve Moran

Alto & Soprano Saxophone

Steve attended Notre Dame High School in Fairfield, CT, and was actively part of the music program there. Immediately following high school, he joined the U.S. Navy, and was chosen to play saxophone in the United States Naval Marching Band based in Great Lakes, IL. Upon completion of his one-year term, Steve went on to study music at the University of Bridgeport, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with Bachelor of Arts and Science degrees in Saxophone Music Performance and Music Education, respectively. His next venture was a 2-year national tour with the famous Tommy Dorsey Orchestra led by Buddy Morrow. When Steve returned from tour, he performed music throughout the state and taught at Green Farms Academy, Westport, CT, before serving on the music faculty as an adjunct professor at Fairfield University for a number of years. Most recently, Steve sang bass for a season with The CT Yuletide Carolers, and he currently works as a freelance musician, playing all types of saxophones as well as clarinet, flute, piano, and singing.

Matt Schmidt

Baritone Saxophone

Matt is a graduate of Southington High School, where he served as section leader in the marching band, concert band, wind ensemble, and jazz ensemble. Upon graduation, he attended Western Connecticut State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education with a concentration in Jazz Studies under the tutelage of Jimmy Greene. Matt is currently a music educator teaching elementary and high school instrumental music in the Southington Public Schools. He plays saxophones and other woodwinds in various area groups, including the Affinity Big Band, The New London Big Band, The Schmidt Brothers Duo, and his own quartet, The Matt Schmidt Quartet. Matt is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Jazz Studies from WestConn.

Adam Szulczewski

Drums

Adam is a drummer from central Connecticut. Coming from an artistic family and multi-instrumentalist parents, Adam began playing percussion at age 8 and gravitated toward the drums shortly after. Throughout his time at Southington High School, he participated in every instrumental opportunity possible — jazz ensemble, concert band, marching band, pit band, jazz combo, as well as his own self-started bands. Adam studied privately with drummer Tom Melito before attending Western Connecticut State University to study Music Performance, majoring in Jazz Studies with a concentration in Applied Drum Set. He has performed in groups spanning genres from folk to musical theater pit bands to punk bands, taking him on multiple North American coast-to-coast tours ranging from small clubs to large theaters. Ultimately graduating with a degree in Sociology from Central Connecticut State University, Adam has chosen a career in the global food industry, and he continues to perform on drums and guitar throughout the greater New England area. We're thrilled to have him play with us in The Infinity Saxophone Quartet.

Steve Casillas

Vocalist

Stephen A. Casillas, was born in El Paso, Texas and studied vocal music and nursing at the University of Texas El Paso. Steve’s musical career began while in high school; serving as President of his high school choir, and performing competitively in a barbershop quartet called The Border Chorders. From then on, he has gravitated professionally to the stage and concert hall, while keeping his strong faith alive by performing liturgical music in various faith churches. While in Texas, he had the opportunity to work with a lyricist to compose an album in a local recording studio and get airplay on radio stations across the country. He has been consistently performing with large/small ensembles and as a soloist in university chorales, church choirs, private ceremonies, community theater/church musicals, and concert productions. His credits include the lead in Six Flags Show Productions, Houston, TX, performances with Fred Waring and the Young Pennsylvanians, and sharing the stage with The Letterman and Debbie Reynolds at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. Over the years, Steve has shared his musical talents in ministering with bereaved families at local funeral homes, and continues to provide entertainment at local assisted living communities throughout Connecticut. For the past 35+ years, Steve has been, and continues to be, a baritone soloist in the choirs at Holy Family Retreat Center, West Hartford, CT. He also serves on the Board of Governors and sings bass with The Hartford Chorale, and sings in the Sanctuary Choir at Asylum Hill Congregational Church, Hartford, CT. Steve works as a licensed, board certified Massage Therapist, and he enjoys the hobby of raising and nurturing monarch butterflies. Steve is thrilled to be a vocalist with The Infinity Saxophone Quartet, and he resides in Southington with his husband, Rich.
